Who is the neurodiversity warrior?

Meet Cara Robins

Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapist, EFT Practitioner, and Neurodiversity Specialist.
Welcome, I’m Cara. I’m an Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapist, EFT Emotional Freedom Techniques Practitioner, and neurodiversity specialist, offering compassionate, affirming support to neurodivergent individuals and families. Previously based in Liverpool, I returned home to Ellon, Aberdeenshire in 2021, where I now work within my community to provide therapeutic services that honour each person’s unique nervous system, communication style, and lived experience.

My Approach and Specialisms

My work is firmly rooted in neurodiversity affirming practice. I specialise in supporting neurodivergent children, adults, parents, and carers in ways that respect difference rather than trying to change who someone is.

I recognise that neurodivergence is not a deficit, but a natural variation in how brains develop and function. My role is to support emotional regulation, self understanding, confidence, and wellbeing at a pace that feels safe and empowering for the individual.
I also have a strong focus on children’s emotional wellbeing, supporting young people to understand their feelings, reduce overwhelm, and build resilience in ways that work for them.

A Lived Experience That Shapes My Work

My passion for this work is deeply personal. I am the mother of a five year old autistic daughter who is non verbal. Parenting a neurodivergent child has profoundly shaped my understanding of advocacy, patience, and unconditional acceptance.

Through my own journey, I have spent countless hours learning how to better support my daughter’s communication, regulation, and overall wellbeing with respect for who she is. I understand the exhaustion, uncertainty, fierce love, and quiet victories that come with raising a neurodivergent child. This lived experience allows me to meet families with genuine empathy and without judgement.

Training and Professional Development

Alongside my client work, I am deeply passionate about educating and supporting fellow therapists. I have spoken at the UK Hypnosis Convention in London in 2024 and 2025 and will be speaking at the Hypnotic Conference in Belgium in May 2026. I provide specialist training for hypnotherapists and wellbeing professionals who wish to work more confidently and ethically with neurodivergent clients.

My training focuses on neurodiversity affirming principles, trauma informed care, adapting therapeutic techniques for different nervous systems, and creating inclusive, accessible therapy spaces. My aim is to widen access to supportive, affirming care so neurodivergent people are met with understanding, safety and respect wherever they seek support.

Qualifications and Professional Standards

I am fully insured, hold an enhanced DBS, and am registered with the General Hypnotherapy Register GHR. I have extensive training in Clinical Hypnotherapy and EFT, allowing me to offer a holistic and flexible approach that adapts to each client’s needs.
